Frequently Asked Questions
1
I'm a music supervisor, ad agency, film maker, or other industry professional that needs music for my production. How do I find and license music under management by SyncRunner?
That's awesome! We're here to help. Please click here and we'll get you everything you need.
2
I'm a music creator (author, composer, recording artist, etc.) that is interested in having SyncRunner help me find sync licensing opportunities for my music. How's this work?
In order for SyncRunner to represent your music for sync licensing opportunities, you must be a SyncRunner member. To apply for membership, please click here.
3
Does SyncRunner accept everyone for membership and how long is the application process?
No, unfortunately we cannot accept everyone that applies for membership. We will carefully review each application and make a decision based upon a number of factors - the most important being our belief that your music is a good fit for sync licensing opportunities. You'll usually hear back from us within a week or so. This is true even for referrals from existing members.
4
How large is the SyncRunner catalog?
We have tens of thousands of tracks under management, by hundreds of artists, songwriters, bands, and production teams. With that said, each of our licensing specialists is intimately familiar with all of the tracks we manage, and we are ready to pitch any of them at a moment's notice for the right opportunity. We are experts in matching music to production needs.
5
SyncRunner charges a one-time $249 admin fee. What's that about?
That's correct, if accepted for SyncRunner membership you'll pay a one time administration fee of $249. This fee is to cover the costs of vetting your application, getting you set up in our internal systems, processing your music and metadata, and other administrative tasks.
6
Are there other costs or commissions?
The only other cost is the 50/50 split of all Sync Fees. As a reminder, Sync Fees are the upfront fees paid to both the owner(s) of a composition and the owner(s) of a master recording in order to obtain a sync license. SyncRunner will collect these fees for licenses that we issue, retain our 50% share, and pay you the rest. ALL backend royalties (performance royalties, mechanicals, etc.) will remain 100% yours.
7
I've become a SyncRunner member, now what happens?
After you become a member and pay your admin fee, you'll be asked to complete an online contract. You can then send us your music and metadata. We will take care of getting everything set up on our internal systems. When sync licensing opportunities arise that we feel are a good fit for your music, we will create and deliver a unique pitch to the prospective licensee. These pitches are often made face-to-face or via video conference, and will sometimes include music by multiple SyncRunner members. If the licensee wants to move forward with your track, we will negotiate the sync fees and other terms, collect the sync fees, and issue the license. We'll then pay you your 50% share of the sync fees. Your backend royalties will continue to be paid to you via your Performing Rights Organizations.
8
Does SyncRunner guarantee sync placements for my music?
No, unfortunately we cannot guarantee that your music will be selected for licensing. We will, however, aggressively pitch your music for all opportunities that we feel your music is a good fit for.
9
What does "one stop" mean, and why is that important?
Music that is available for "one stop" licensing means that the same person or entity owns/controls BOTH the composition and the master recordings. We prefer to represent "one stop" songs whenever possible, as we've found that they have the best chance of being licensed. Music supervisors want speed, simplicity, and agility when selecting a track and negotiating for a license. If your music is "one stop", you check all those boxes.
10
Do you have a referral program?
Yes, we do have a referral program. When you complete the membership application, there is a field for the name of the member that referred you. Put their name in there, and we'll take care of the rest. You'll get $15 off your admin fee, and they'll get $20 back as a thank you.

If you're a member and want to make a referral, make sure you tell them to enter your name on their application. Be sure that the name they enter is the same name that's on your membership account. You'll receive your $20 thank you within a few business days of the new member being accepted and paying their administration fee.
